HI win bids to run diabetic eye screening in East Anglia and Essex

IMG_0238Patients with diabetes in East Anglia and Essex will experience the high quality eye screening services delivered by Health Intelligence (HI) from 1st April 2016, announced by NHS England Midlands & East (East).

Eye screening is a key part of diabetes care to check for diabetic retinopathy, a condition that can lead to sight loss if it’s not detected early and treated. Everyone aged 12 and over with diabetes receives an invitation to this service once a year.

NHS England Midlands & East (East) awarded the two contracts to provide Diabetic Eye Screening Services to HI. This will see us continue to serve the population in East Anglia but will now include those in Peterborough & Cambridgeshire. The second contract will unite all the patients in Essex under one new diabetic eye screening programme from 1st April.

These will join the current family of HI DESPs which includes North West London and Portsmouth & South East Hampshire diabetic eye screening programmes. They all utilise our unique software, Spectra, which helps to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the DESP for patients.

Phil Kirby, Managing Director of Health Intelligence said “We are delighted to have been selected to continue delivering a first class service for current and new East Anglia and Essex patients.”

Alison Cowie, Head of Commissioning, NHS England Midlands & East (East) said “We are very pleased to announce that Health Intelligence Ltd will be providing these services across East Anglia and Essex. By having one provider this will create a simpler service for patients and will provide consistency across the eastern region.”

We will now work closely with the existing providers to ensure a smooth handover before they begin delivering services under their new contract on 1st April 2016.
